Torbay Clinical Hub
KTA have submitted planning on the Clinical Hub Building for Torbay South Devon Foundation NHS Trust.
The brief for the building includes a mixture of a patient accessed Breast Care department, Shared Admin and Histopathology Laboratory across 3 storeys of occupied space over 4000m2.
The design is compliant against several benchmarks, including BREEAM Excellent, NHS Net Zero Carbon Guidelines and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), standard grids assist in creating repeatable rooms and standard room sizes. This is the first step towards creating an efficient design and allowing MMC at an early stage. The team utilised carbon calculators to assess materials and make informed decisions on the material selections, reducing the embodied carbon within the envelope.
The design creates a total of three mammography treatment rooms and three ultrasound rooms with a complimentary set of consult exam and treatment rooms. Patient flows are carefully considered through the plan allowing high through-put of screening pathway and separate assessment pathways.
At first floor, rooms can be configured in multiple standard types allowing for a variety of modern workspaces. The Histopathology layout creates a definitive workflow for the department with specimens going through various stages of cut-up and analysis.
The building is a key enabling project for the Trust.
