The Planning Committee unanimously granted approval to restore The Royal Clarence to its former glory on the 10th October 2022. An enormous achievement by all the team involved to get to this point.
The former Royal Clarence Hotel was destroyed by a devastating fire in October 2015 and has been left as a derelict site since. The proposal to rebuild the historic Grade II listed façade reinstates the setting of Cathedral Green and Exeter Cathedral itself. Food and beverage units are located on the ground floor and residential units are located from the first floor upwards. The aim is to reconnect the Royal Clarence with the public realm and create an active frontage across the site. Throughout the scheme existing building fabric is exposed to celebrate the heritage of the building and the many transformations it has undergone since the 14th Century.
The development delivers a mixture of 2 & 3 bedroom apartments and duplexes, alongside the food and beverage units on the ground floor.
